What's Next

For 8th graders in the 2011-12 school year, take your time discerning the prestigious  high schools in our area. Start by visiting High School Fairs at the parish most convenient for you (see the dates and locations listed above). The fairs include representatives from all three Johnson County Catholic High Schools; they are available to help families discern the high school options in this area.

Follow St. James Academy's Enrollment Timeline, mark your calendar to attend St. James Academy’s Open House and 8th grade sports nights. Come for a shadow visit and be prepared to ask your Student Ambassador a wide range of questions about being a student at St. James Academy, what they like and dislike, and how you can prepare for high school while you’re still in 8th grade.

Current 8th graders are invited to experience a day in the halls and classrooms of St. James Academy. The shadow visit is an essential tool for helping students choose St. James Academy. Once they experience the hospitality and camaraderie of our community, students immediately feel at home on the St. James Academy campus.

Please schedule your visit in advance by contacting the Office of Student Recruitment at (913)254-4228. The administration may find it necessary to limit the number of shadow visitors so some dates will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your understanding is appreciated.

It is recommended that students choose a day when their school is not in session.

Visiting students should wear dress pants, slacks or skirt and an appropriate shirt (please no jeans or t-shirts). Shadow guests usually arrive at 7:45 a.m. (unless it's an All-School Mass Day) and are dismissed at 3:00 p.m. unless instructed otherwise. Lunch is provided during their visit.

A parent or responsible adult should escort the student visitor to the Administrative Office for check-in. The day begins by attending Mass with the Student Ambassador. Parents are welcome to stay for daily Mass, if your schedule allows. A Student Ambassador escorts the visitor through their daily schedule. Ambassadors may be Freshmen or Sophomores.

In 2011-12, visitors have the choice of "A" Day schedules which offer four class periods or "B" Day schedules which include three class periods and the 50 minutes House Time. Occasionally there will be special schedules when All School Mass is offered. Consider the following dates for a visit:

A days: 1/27, 2/2, 2/10, 3/5, 4/30.

B days: 1/9, 1/30, 2/1, 2/27, 3/26, 4/2, 4/27.

All School Mass day: January 31, celebrating Catholic Schools Week.

Other dates may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
