St. James Academy is committed to providing programs for students with special needs which foster their success within our school community. Services offered help to maintain their participation in the regular education classroom. All students with special needs are evaluated on an individual basis before enrollment to help develop a program aligned with their strength and areas of need. Parents should contact our counselor Mr. Terry Kopp or our Learning Specialist Mrs. Jodie Maddox, to discuss their student's individual needs and programming. The Student Improvement Team, along with the administration, is responsible for making recommendations regarding services, curriculum support, and courses available for each student. We offer the following programs for students with disabilities and gifted needs.
Partnership with Olathe School District
All students who apply to St. James and who have an active an Individual Education Program (IEP) must meet with the Olathe School District in order to see what services can be offered to the students. IEP’s are written by the Olathe School District only. Services provided by the Olathe School District are not provided on the St. James Academy campus.
SIT Team
The Student Improvement Team works with parents, students, counselors, teachers and interested parties in the development of a plan for students with special needs. This includes writing 504 Plans, Academic Plans, making recommendations for particular interactions, and providing help for any student with a physical disability.
