Laptops need to be shut down each day
When the school day ends shut down your computer and restart when you are home. When homework is completed shut your laptop down and restart when you get to school. This will avoid the “wheel of death” and items that cannot be printed or saved.

Saving Files
All files pertaining to school should be saved in the documents folder. Any files saved on the desktop are not backed up and will be lost if your computer fails. To save files using your desktop create an alias folder.

Open Finder
Select the Documents directory
Right click on the folder you want to create an alias for
Select “Make Alias”
Drag alias to your desktop

Anytime a new document is created it is a good idea to save the document immediately and to save it periodically when working on it. That will eliminate losing the entire document should something go wrong.

Text Books
The textbook companies recommend using Safari as the browser. If your textbook does not load properly, it is probably because the laptop has not been shut down recently. To correct the problem shut down your computer and restart. Then open your textbook.
