Course Descriptions

Drama I

This course is an introduction to Theatre Arts and the world of theatre. While in this class, students will learn basic fundamentals of acting through scenework, monologues, and group exercises. Students will also have an introduction into theatre history from Greek and Roman on through the early 1900's and even into the modern theatre world. From theatre history, to acting, and improv exercises we will be exploring the use of our vocal instruments to create a dramatic sound that is unique to each student and each class.

Advanced Drama

This course is a second level class for those students that have already taken Drama 1 and would like to continue enhancing their knowledge of theatre, as well as fine tuning their acting abilities. This is a great course for those students looking to improve their acting skills, improv ability, and covering theatre history more in depth.  A discussion of playwrights, musicals, and plays will be a big piece of this class as well.  This class will end with a performance from several students in the class.

Improv Troupe

The Saint James Academy Mission Improvable Improv Troupe is a student run group which meets once a week and performs throughout the year. This group of talented students uses skills acquired in theatre such as acting, singing, creating comical unscripted scenes using props, lines and suggestions from the audience. In January, students can attend the Kansas Thespians Conference and compete.  At the 2011Conference, Mission Improvable placed 3rd in the competitive improv catagory.  The troupe holds auditions twice per year, once in the fall and once in the winter. Watch for upcoming dates for shows soon!
