The Franciscan Project
There have been various fundraising needs at SJA. Although we’ve been open six years now, we are created new each day. Every one of our needs is new and important as we move and grow on this path to holiness with Christ.
"Let us begin today, for up to now we have done nothing." ~ St. Francis of Assisi
Ponder this quote from the Patron Saint of Environment, while also considering the appearance of our campus. What have we done to outwardly show our school’s identity in our exterior facilities, and do our exterior conditions compliment the interior?
Facts About the Franciscan Project.
1. The landscaping on the perimeter of St. James Academy must be completed prior to any expansion of the current grounds. So no new classroom spaces, additional fields, parking lots, etc. until this landscaping is complete.
2. The Franciscan Project will enhance the grounds and compliment the interior beauty of our facility. We also want to show our mission through our outward appearance. In addition to the street front sign with school name and a cross, we are considering other additions such as a Cross on the northwest corner of the building, or maybe a crucifix in the circle drive.
3. As good citizens of the city of Lenexa, we must maintain the beauty of the landscape along Prairie Star Parkway. The requirements fall right in line with the landscaping our neighbors to the east. The city has been more than accommodating over the past 6 years. But the time has come that we address this responsibility to our city.
You can imagine the scope of this project. To landscape the perimeter and through-ways of a 52 acre campus is a big commitment but it’s also our responsibility. So the effort is broken into five phases. The total cost of this project will be more than $400,000. We have $100,000 from the Archdiocese already designated to this fund. Our 2011 auction patrons contributed more than $35,000. Phase one is complete. Four to go!
Please help us complete the next phases through your donation. The sooner we complete all the landscaping, the sooner we will have the opportunity to expand our campus.
