The St. James Academy Scholars' Bowl team took 6th place at the 4A KSHSAA State Championship on Saturday, February 11th.

The team, led by Senior Captain and team MVP Chris Moyer, Juniors Jane Castro, Eric Zheng, Brian Buechler and Ian Garnett, and Freshmen Phenom Moira Reilly, became the only team in the state of Kansas to beat eventual State Champion DeSoto High school in League, Regional, or State competition.

The Thunder Scholars' Bowl team got off to a slow start, losing its first two matches in pool play. The team rallied together in the third round to defeat DeSoto and stay alive. They ended pool play by winning all of their remaining matches to qualify into the championship round. In the championship round, St. James suffered a few narrow defeats but still placed 6th out of more than 64 teams that compete in the 4A class.

The Scholars' Bowl team will bring back 5 of its 6 varsity members next year, and Coach Baysinger is excited for a bright future for the SJA Scholars' Bowl team.
