Good news from the science labs!
We finished first today by a fairly large margin and all the team's quite excited! Of all the tournaments I've been a part of, today's was perhaps the calmest, least-stressful, smoothest one ever. The parents that are part of the Olympiad program were just amazing today (as always), the kids did a great job with the building, and we really had a good day just competing and not worrying about anything.
Our top scorers were...
Astronomy: 1st, Tim Hendricks and Brennan Garnett Dynamic Planet: 2nd, Cody Hearn Experimental Design: 1st, Austin Petz, Brian Buechler, and Sean Clary Fermi Questions: 2nd, Tim Hendricks and Jake Grube Forensics: 2nd, Rebecca Thornton and Tina Keehn Gravity Vehicle: 1st, Brian Buechler and Cody Hearn; 5th, Alex O'Brien and Drew McKee Helicopters: 4th, Drew McKee and Torin Straub; 5th Cody Hearn Microbe Mission: 3rd, Ian and Brennan Garnett Optics: 2nd, Brian Buechler and Tim Hendricks Protein Modeling: 1st, Ian Garnett, Libby Grube, and Jake Grube; 5th, Jackie Condon, Joe Boutte, and Natalie Mitchell Remote Sensing: 2nd, Sean Clary and Cody Hearn Robot Arm: 4th, Sean Clary and Brian Buechler; 5th, Jonathan Mauro and Drew McKee Rocks & Minerals: 2nd, Rebecca Thornton and Jane Castro Sounds of Music: 2nd, Sean Clary and Libby Grube Tech Problem Solving: 4th, Brian Buechler and Tim Hendricks Thermodynamics: 1st, Cody Hearn and Tim Hendricks Water Quality: 5th, Jane Castro and Rebecca Thornton
We medaled in 17 of the 23 events...including 3 double medals and won by 33 points...pretty much a landslide. (Last week it was 2 points!) The team seems to be coalescing finally and we hope for great things at Kapaun Mt. Carmel on February 4th.
