St. James Academy is committed to providing programs for students with special needs which foster their success within our school community. Services offered help to maintain their participation in the regular education classroom. All students with special needs are evaluated on an individual basis before enrollment to help develop a program aligned with their strengths and areas of need. Parents should contact St. James Counselor, Mr. Terry Kopp, or Director of Student Services, Mrs. Jodie Maddox, to discuss their student's individual needs and programming. The Student Response Team, explained below, works with the administration to make recommendations regarding services, curriculum support, and courses available for each student.
The Student Response Team
(Responsive Experienced Supportive Proactive Organized Nurturing Spiritual Excellence)
The Response Team meets every other day to assess the needs of St. James students who have been identified or referred to the counseling office for specific academic, social, and emotional needs. The team works with parents, students, counselors, teachers and interested parties in the development of a plan for students with special considerations. This may include writing Student Improvement Plans, 504 Plans, Academic Plans, making recommendations for particular interactions, and providing help for any student in need.
