Dances
School dances are for sophomore, junior and senior students only. Freshmen students can attend mixers and will have a semi-formal dance each year. With the exception of Fall Homecoming, Sweetheart (Women Pay All) and Prom, dances are for St. James Academy students only.
Guests for Fall Semi-formal, WPA and the Spring Semi-formal must be registered in advance by completing a guest approval form. The St. James Academy Activities Director will have final approval of all guests. Registered guests must abide by the same school regulations and policies as a St. James Academy student.
- Once a student or guest leaves the dance/mixer, he or she will not be readmitted and must leave the school campus.
- Students must arrive at dances no later than one hour after the starting time in order to be admitted.
Standards of Behavior and Dress
Those wearing attire judged to be too revealing or provocative would be asked to change or to leave the dance.
For Young Men:
- Slacks should be worn (no jeans or shorts); Button down collared shirt ; Tie; Dress shoes (no tennis shoes or flip flops)
For Young Ladies:
- No excessively tight dresses; No visible cleavage; Midriff must be covered (no mesh or shear material); Solid material must extend from the front to the back with at least two inches showing on both sides of the back; The length of the dress should be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee; Back of the dress should not dip below the waist
Also, those students dancing provocatively will be told to stop, will be disciplined and will be required to leave the dance if they persist.
Unfortunately young people do not always make the right choices. It is our joint role, as educators and parents, to teach and guide them to make appropriate decisions. Teenage alcohol and drug use is the number one problem facing families and is often responsible for ruining festive events like Prom.
What parents can do? Set reasonable limits. Let your child know you care enough to want him/her to be safe. Make sure they understand that teenage drinking and drug use is against the law and school rules regardless of whether they are driving. Possible natural consequences may include loss of life, severe injury, legal problems, or removal from school. Check on the specific activities your children will be involved in before and after the dance. You need to know where they are going, when they will be home, and whom they will be with. Trust, but verify! Do not allow students to rent motel or hotel rooms for parties. Do not allow your home to be a place for a party that will provide alcohol for students. It is against the law. We want all events at St. James to be positive and in line with our mission. We ask your help in supporting these guidelines so that a common message is given from the entire St. James community. We look forward to St. James Academy dances that are filled with the joys of the Christian life.
All school-sponsored events, including mixers, dances or athletic events require students and their guests to abide by school rules and regulations regarding behavior and appropriate dress. Christian modesty is expected at all times.
- At mixers, students may wear jeans or casual dress unless otherwise specified. Clothes should fit appropriately.
- Appropriate dress for a semi-formal dance will include dresses for young women and slacks and a tie for young men.
- Students should treat each other with respect. Inappropriate physical contact and suggestive dancing will not be allowed.
- Drugs, alcohol, chewing tobacco and smoking are not permitted. If there is evidence of use or possession of alcohol/drugs the police department, school administration and parents will be notified.

Student activity cards with student name and photo are issued at the beginning of each school year. This is the student’s admission identification to all home athletic events, school-sponsored mixers and dances.
- Students must have their ID card to be admitted to a St. James Academy mixer or dance.
